Truck driver dies following fiery crash near Malalane

The accident occurred just before 20:00 on the N4 just outside Malalane.

A truck driver has been killed after his truck collided with another one just outside Malalane this evening.

Frits Koekemoer of Nkomazi Emergency Services said one of the trucks had caught alight following the collision and the driver of the blazing truck died on the scene.

He said the driver of the second truck sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital by Mpumalanga EMS.

Koekemoer said the call for the accident came in just before 20:00 and Nkomazi EMS, LowMed EMS, Nkomazi Security Solutions, TRAC N4, the Nkomazi fire department, the SAPS, and municipal and provincial traffic departments were on the scene.

He added that an SSF Security’s fire trailer was used to try to smother the flames until the Nkomazi fire department arrived.

An investigation is under way by the SAPS forensics to determine the cause of the accident.
