Register to vote this coming weekend

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has proclaimed Saturday and Sunday, September 18 and 19 open for voter registration. This is the last opportunity for unregistered prospective voters to register.

All voting stations will be open for registrations from 08:00 to 17:00 on both days.

The ward boundaries for Ward 12 and Ward 14 have changed. Note that the area between Spur (Potgieter Street) and Jock’s Country Stalls (Dullstroom/Kwêna Crossing) has changed.

From Spur to Jocks Country Stall on the right now fall under Ward 14.

This, therefore, means that all residents residing to the right of Viljoen Street (uneven house numbers) from the Spur driving to Jock’s Country Stall need to reregister to be eligible to vote. Voters will only be allowed to vote where they reside.

If residents have moved since the last elections they must re-register. For the first time, the IEC has opened an online registration portal. To register online, visit www.registertovote.elections.org.za and follow the prompts.

A green ID barcoded book, a smartcard or a temporary identification certificate are required to register. No driver’s licence or passport will be accepted. Every vote is crucial if you want to see a change in government.

For more information in this regard, contact the IEC on 013 235 2086 or 013 764 1085.
