Lowveld shocked by sudden loss of beloved Hawks officer
WO Gerrie le Grange was in a vehicle accident yesterday afternoon. He died early this morning in hospital.

The Lowveld has been shocked by the tragic and unexpected death of Hawks member WO Gerrie le Grange early this morning.
Loved by all who knew him, Le Grange is being mourned across Mbombela today as family and friends from around the Lowveld try to process his sudden passing.
A dedicated member of the Nelspruit Hawks for many years, Le Grange was on his way to a crime scene near the airport at about 17:00 yesterday afternoon when the incident occurred.

It is believed he was driving toward the ring road when he was involved in an accident with a bakkie.

Just before 06:00 this morning, his friends and loved ones received the devastating news that Le Grange had died.
Bossies Community Justice’s Albert Gryvenstein said Le Grange was true friend and excellent policeman who will be sorely missed.
“He is leaving a void that will never be filled. Rest in peace, my brother,” he said.

ER24 advanced life paramedic Kim Habib said Le Grange was a dear friend to her and an amazing person.
“Both him and his wife were amazing people. I don’t know what else to say right now,” said the heartbroken Habib.

A fellow Hawks officer, who asked not to be named, said he had been joking around with Le Grange just before the accident yesterday afternoon and was still trying to come to terms with the reality that he was gone.
“We lost a colleague, a friend and a brother in him. Gerrie was full of life and always lived it to the fullest, and wanting to enjoy it, he would always urge us for a braai session,” said the Hawks member.
“He was well-known around the City. He was very positive in approaching his work, even the most difficult tasks. He always raised his hands to say he would give it a try, and actually did it with ease.

“We lost a soldier, and a very friendly man who was quick to joke around and never took anything personally.
“I salute you, my friend, and hope your wife finds comfort and strength in these difficult times.
“May your soul rest in peace, champ,” said the officer.
