First lines cast for the Lowveld Social Series

The first Lowveld Social Series Bass Fishing Competition for the 2022 season took place on Sunday January 23 at Inyaka Dam near Bushbuckridge.

The fish waited for no one as many hopefuls arrived at the dam at about 04:30 with their boats and necessary fishing equipment.

A total of 29 boats were released onto the dam. Sixty-four seniors and four juniors participated in the friendly competition. It was a bumper-to-bumper turnout as the anglers were excited by their chances to win the amazing prizes. Local businesses and tackle shops supported this first competition of the season.

The weather did not play along during the competition, and the anglers faced an extra level of difficulty to get back into momentum after the lazy festive season. However, they proved their mettle and made the first event a massive success.

The organiser of the series, Wiehann Serfontein, thanked all anglers who participated and said he believed the 2022 season would grow in short time. “We could not have asked for a better start to the season. The luck turned to our side as the weather played out through the day and everyone had at least a few bites,” he said.

Third place went to Jaco and Charleen Schoeman.

The next social series will be on the last weekend of February, and those interested in joining the second competition, Serfontein asked to keep an eye out for announcements on the Lowveld Social Series Facebook page.
