Mixed reactions drawn regarding matric results in Tubatse Circuit

Boshielo was proud that the province had not produce any schools with a 0% pass rate in 2021 as compared to the seven in 2020.

BURGERSFORT – Despite a drop in the Limpopo matric results, local independent schools St Thomas and Calvin College performed wonderfully. Both schools’ Class of 2021 achieved a 100% matric pass rate.

Speaking after the announcement of the results, Calvin College’s director, Anthony Devassey, said, “Calvin College Burgersfort wishes to congratulate the Class of 2021 for achieving a 100% pass rate. Out of the 90 students who wrote, 90% passed with a bachelor’s admission, 8.88% with a diploma admission and 1.11% with a higher certificate admission. Calvin College was first in the Tubatse Circuit. Your hard work as learners and dedicated educators made it possible despite a plethora of challenges encountered during the year. We are proud of you and wish you all the best in your future endeavours.”

Most public schools in the Tubatse Circuit struggled. Phaahla Secondary in Bothashoek is one of those that performed poorly, The school had a 9% pass rate – only six learners passed out of 68.

Other schools in Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality that excelled included Mogale wa Bagale Technical School, Poo Secondary and Mafadi Independent Academy. They all achieved more than an 80% pass rate. The Limpopo MEC for education, Polly Boshielo, highlighted that the province needed to improve. Limpopo obtained the lowest matric pass rate in South Africa with 66.7%. The province achieved 68.2% in 2020.

Boshielo was proud that the province had not produce any schools with a 0% pass rate in 2021 as compared to the seven in 2020.

“We are not happy with the achievement as we targeted a pass rate of 80%. We will work hard to ensure we improve. The drop is a sign that we must pull up our socks,” she said.
