Mbombela bus stops decked out with space themes and critters

Bus stop by bus stop, local artists are bringing a bit of colour back into the city.

Matthew Koster and Wouter de Witt (aka Ghost) have spaced out and spiced up some parts of Mbombela, and they do not plan on limiting themselves to only bus stops.

Koster took it upon himself to paint the in Ferreira Street one, and with a praying mantis of all creatures.

When asked why this specific being, he said it was because he was tired of the Big 5 with all the wonderful creatures and animals we have in the area.

He is a freelance graphic designer and illustrator working under the alias “lazy river”. What inspired him, though, was a community project he had taken part in in Pretoria a while ago.

“A few artists had the chance to create murals. That experience and the curator of the project inspired me so much, I wanted to bring that to my home town.”

Koster said he did another bus stop in Dr Enos Mabuza Drive and was contacted by TJ Maré, who asked him to create something uplifting on the Ferreira Street bus stop.

De Witt, with the assistance of well-known community member, Alicia Whitting, tackled a bus stop in Percy Fitzpatrick Drive, and it is safe to say that stop is now out of this world. Whitting added to a post she shared on Facebook that they were making the world a better place, one bus stop at a time.
