Pumas’ Valentine’s dance the centre of love

The Pumas Valentine's Gala Dance was held at the Mbombela Stadium on Friday February 11.

It was a magical evening filled with love, romance and fun for the Lowvelder couples who attended the Pumas Valentine’s Gala Dance at the Mbombela Stadium on Friday February 11.

Beautifully decorated tables complete with glittering candles filled the main suite of the stadium building, and the gentle sound of various love songs filled the air.

By 18:00, the guests, dressed to the nines for this special occasion, started flooding the hall. They received complimentary drinks at the doors. The couples chatted and laughed with the other guests as they waited for the entertainment to start and their meals to arrive.

The organiser of the special event, Madelein van Eeden, opened up the gala by thanking all of those who attended before handing the stage over to the Pumas rugby director, and singer, Jimmy Stonehouse, who kept his audience entertained with a medley of love songs.

Between his sets, the meals were provided by several top-rated Lowveld restaurants. It was “left up to fate” as to what meals the guests had – each couple had to draw a ticket to discover what they would be eating.

Van Eeden said the meals were generously supplied by several eateries in the area.

Some lucky draws and raffles were held in which the guests were able to win a few nights away at various lodges throughout the Lowveld, as well as surprise hampers.

Following Stonehouse’s performance, Bianca Swift and Juan Bester also appeared on stage to sing. Van Eeden said that even Marius Nel, a well-known Lowvelder, had sung a few songs.

A fully stocked bar was also available, and photographers Geran and Michelle Raath of Skullpt Studio set up a Valentine’s Day-themed photo booth for loving couples who wanted memories of the evening with their significant other.

Van Eeden thanked all the sponsors for their support and providing some of the prizes and food for the evening.
