Hazyview the starting point for old cars, their drivers and passengers to go on an adventure
The Mon Ami Classic Car Road Trip tourism initiative that started in Hazyview on February 9, was coordinated by Regional Tourism Consultants to explore the beauty of the country from the Kruger National Park to the Karoo all the way to the 25th George Old Car Show in George.
Some seniors, who are passionate about classic cars, took the opportunity to drive down in their legendary vehicles, visiting memorable spots and towns on their journey. The classic cars were two MGs, a Porsche and two Alfa Romeos. A Ford Everest followed them as a backup vehicle with a car trailer.
The oldest model was a 1968 Alfa Romeo Junior and the latest a 1989 Porsche 928 S4.

Kroonstad, Graaff Reinet, George, Port Alfred, McClear, Underberg and Nottingham Road were the overnight stops. “The hospitality of the people at the small, quaint hotels was fantastic with good service levels and great food,” said Edna Minkner-Fick, a group member.

The seniors visited classic car collections in Graaff Reinet, Sedgefield, Knysna, Nottingham Road and of course the biggest collection was at the George Classic Car Show. Here more than 1 000 vehicles rich in history, all in bright colours and well looked after, were exhibited.

“The interest shown by the locals along the route was wonderful. It was a great way to start a conversation with the people at various places where we stopped for a picnic, a braai en route or for a coffee stop,” said Minkner-Fick.
Regional Tourism Consultants urges people with a passion for old cars to join the next road trip.
