Upgrades to Dr Enos Mabuza Drive on track

A sensitive cable needs to be removed before work on the road can continue. The cable is expected to be removed by March 25.

It is expected that the construction on Dr Enos Mabuza Drive will be completed in less than two months.

White Hazy Constructions’ Japie Visser said sensitive cables needed to be removed from under one of the road lanes before work could continue.

Visser said two of the critical cables have been removed and one remains.

Another lane has been created on Dr Enos Mabuza Drive while contractors wait for cables to be removed.

“The cable is about four metres under the road. We have already exposed the cable and the City of Mbombela was supposed to cut the power to the cable today (March 22) so we could move it, but the municipality was having issues with its electricity supply in some areas so it couldn’t be done.”

Visser said the last cable was expected to be moved by the end of the week.

A trench has been dug by contractors to move the sensitive cables under the road.

“Once the cable has been moved, we can continue building the road. It should be completed in less than two months,” he said.

White Hazy Construction is on track with the upgrades to Dr Enos Mabuza Drive. The upgrades are expected to be completed by mid-May.
