PCA to go all out on a tractor in aid of beneficiaries
PCA's Dr André Hattingh will be driving a tractor 2 500 kilometres through five provinces. His journey will start on May 1 this year.
Pediatric Care Africa’s Dr André Hattingh is swapping his motorbike for a tractor for the next leg of PCA’s fundraising efforts for children in urgent medical care.
Hattingh will be driving a tractor 2 500 kilometres through five provinces.
He will be leaving from White River Square on May 1 and is set to return back to the centre on May 14.
Hattingh returned from a 7 000-kilometre motorbike ride around the country called “Ride for a Child” on March 5.
The latest venture is called the “Track-Tor for Charity Ride”.
Hattingh said that due to the dramatic increase in demand for their services, they receive many calls for medical assistance and baby food. “Our donation income has shrunk since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, while the demand for our services skyrocketed by 600%,” said Hattingh.

He said PCA does not receive any financial assistance or grants from the South African government and it therefore has to generate its own funds.
The promise to help sick, hungry and vulnerable children was made by Hattingh almost 30 years ago, during a period he spend as volunteer doctor in Rwanda during the genocide.
“Our children need help and it may be your child or your neighbour’s child in desperate need next,” said Hattingh.
“Two-thousand-five-hundred kilometres by tractor is not for the faint of heart and requires tremendous mental strength from the tractor driver. At an average speed of 26 kilometres per hour and extremely bumpy and tiring environment, it is a truly taxing and exhausting endeavour,” he said.
Hattingh said the aim is to raise at least R250 000.

• Farmer unions and organsations can support Hattingh along his route.
• Donate baby milk (all types) to PCA.
• Donate diesel for the charity tractor ride.
• Become a volunteer for PCA.
• Hospitals and doctors can assist PCA with pro bono treatment, as part of its CSR programmes and initiatives.
