The identities of two allegedly corrupt Kruger National Park rangers arrested in Operation Blood Orange, a Hawks investigation into rhino poaching, were revealed in court today.

The two rangers, Daniel Chikwa Maluleke (60) and Solly Ubisi (56), appeared at the Skukuza Regional Court today, April 26 on charges of corruption, money laundering and fraud linked to wildlife trafficking.

They were arrested on Saturday April 23 by the Mpumalanga Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team, which was assisted by the Skukuza Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit during operation Blood Orange.

Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson, Capt Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, she said the arrests followed a comprehensive investigation which included the accused’s financial affairs.

It is alleged that the accused provided tactical information to rhino poaching syndicates in exchange for large sums of money.

The two were remanded in custody until May 4 for formal bail application.
