Lowveld lasses on iron horses open the throttle
The International Female Ride Day is an annual event that is acknowledged around the world.
Raising awareness for lady bikers, around 60 riders from clubs across the Lowveld took part in the annual International Female Ride Day on Saturday May 7.
Organised by the Ladies of Harley, under the Big 5 Chapter, the riders met at 08:00 at Eastview Motorad. From there, the group, supported by around 20 marshals, embarked at 09:00 on a bike ride through Mbombela to raise awareness in the community that women bike riders exist and that they, too, have fun riding motorbikes.
The representative of Ladies of Harley, Natachia Freeman, said the ride is an annual event around the world.

“Other chapters and clubs from South Africa and the rest of the world would also have participated in their own International Female Ride Day,” she said.
“This year’s ride had the most bikers we have ever had, and we had support from various biking clubs across the Lowveld.”

Members of Steelwings Harley, the Crusader Clan and others took part, and after the group’s ride through town, they briefly stopped at Freedom Motorcycles before departing for the La Familia Clubhouse on the Old Pretoria Road for prize-giving, food and drinks.
