Malelane Rugby Club start season with a tough blow

Malelane Rugby Club started their Ehlanzeni Club Rugby season on their home field playing against the Rooikatte from Lydenburg on Saturday afternoon, May 7.

The first and second team had a tough start to their season, losing against Lydenburg. The Malelane second team played at 14:00 and were in the lead through the majority of the game, but lost to the Rooikatte on the last minute when a penalty conversion gave Lydenburg a 17-18 victory.

The Malelane Olifante faced off the Rooikatte and lost 5-27. “It was a tough start to the season, but we are proud of the players as we had to make emergency changes in the last minute. Fortunately, we are ready for the next games and will be prepared,” said Malelane Rugby Club’s manager, Shayne Adcock.

The Rooikatte, the Malelane Club, Steelpoort, Hazyview, the Black Cats of KaMhlushwa, the Ratels of Ohrigstad and Matsulu will play in the Mayor’s and Mayor’s Reverse League. The top four teams on the log will play in the Mayor’s League Semi-finals and the bottom four in the Reserve League Semi-finals.

The club’s teams will play their next matches this weekend on May 14, the Malelane Olifante will play an away game against KaMhlushwa and the second team will play their away game against Matsulu.
