Koraalboom roadworks restarted

The contractor resumed working on the road on May 5. It is expected that the work will be completed in two weeks' time.

The roadworks in Koraalboom Avenue have restarted after a two-year standstill.

The spokesperson for Independent Development Trust (IDT), Phasha Mokogolane, said they have instructed the contractor, Thenjwa Engineering and Projects (TEP), to start with work, prioritising the closing of the two ditches that stretch across the road near the traffic circle.

“The contractor resumed working on the road on May 5. It is expected that the work will be completed in two weeks’ time. However, it is expected that the rain will hamper the progress. We have made it clear to the contractor that they must prioritise cleaning the area and closing the ditches,” Mokogolane said.  He appealed to the community to be patient while the roadworks are in progress.

The project was initiated by the national Department of Public Works and Infrastructure to build a secondary access road to the Mpumalanga High Court. IDT was appointed as subcontractor. TEP was tasked with laying water pipes and digging up cables near the Koraalboom traffic circle in 2019.

The project had been put on hold for two years as a result of TEP not meeting the minimum quality standards as stipulated by the engineer and quantity surveyor at the time.
