Rain may cause slight delay for Enos Mabuza upgrade

The rain has delayed laying down the final layers of tar and cement on the road.

Following the recent and unexpected rain in the Lowveld, the upgrades to Dr Enos Mabuza Drive may be completed in the first week of June instead of the end of May.

White Hazy Construction’s Japie Visser said the team was working hard to complete the work by the end of May, however, the rain has delayed laying down the final layers of tar and cement on the road.

He said that the lane from the Madiba Road intersection is the last lane they will be busy on. The initial layers of material have been laid, but it takes up to seven days to cure. After that, the final layer is laid and that takes another four to five days to cure.

Visser said they are also busy with the paving, which will be a two-metre walkway that will feature guard railings for pedestrians.
