Lines cast for the Lowveld Social Series

The monthly Lowveld Social Series Bass Fishing Competition for the 2022 season took place on Sunday May 8 at Klipkopje Dam between White River and Hazyview.

Some anglers arrived at the dam as early as 04:30 on May 8, with their boats and equipment, knowing full well that fish wait for no one.

As the previous competition had to be cancelled due to adverse weather that rendered the road to Klipkopje Dam impassable, 10 boats and 27 anglers entered the competition to settle the long-awaited score.

Despite an abundance of bait being used before the competition to attract more bass to be caught, the day’s fishing still proved very tough, with only small fish being caught, though plenty of it.

The teams that managed to trick slightly bigger bass into biting were announced victorious. “All things considered, it was still a blessed day out on the water and all the anglers enjoyed the competition with camaraderie and excellent sportsmanship being the order of the day,” said organiser of the competition, Wiehann Serfontein.

The winning team was Four Stroke, Jacques and Jessica Woller, who had a total bag weight of 0.855kg. Jacques also caught the biggest fish, weighing 0.735kg.

The runner-up team was Baby Bass, Matthew Venter and Mike Domanis, with a bag weight of 0.635kg, and in third place was Bucket Mouth, Joniel and Heinrich Marks, with their bag weight of 0.605kg. Heinrich caught the biggest fish among the juniors, weighing 0.255kg.

Serfontein thanked all the anglers who participated and said he believed the series steadily grows. “We would like to thank all our generous sponsors, loyal anglers and organisers for making yet another successful competition a reality. Luck forgot to join the day, but everyone had at least a few bites.”
