Man sentenced to 25 year for raping elderly women at Zwelisha

The Nelspruit Regional Court found the evidence credible and the accused was convicted.

Muzi Nkuna (37) was sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment for raping a 60-year-old woman from Pienaar, by the Nelspruit Regional Court on May 25.Provincial Hawks spokesperson, Cpt Dineo Sekgotodi, said the accused entered the victim’s house on May 11, 2018 and a scuffle ensued as the victim fought back.

“During their scuffle she managed to injure the accused on his forehead with a plate. The accused overpowered the old woman and raped her twice during the ordeal. He then fled the scene. The incident was reported to the police and the accused was subsequently arrested,” she said.
Sekgotodi also said the accused denied the allegations in court.

The state prosecutor, Antionette Nkosi, relied on the evidence of the complainant, the first report and the evidence of the arresting officer.
The court found their evidence credible and the accused was found guilty as charged.
“The prosecutor highlighted the plight of vulnerable members of society and the court found no reason to impose a lesser sentence than 25 years of direct imprisonment,” she said.

The victim’s family has welcomed the court judgement and believes that he will not get parole.
“We are happy that Nkuna was found guilty and sentenced and we can now put everything behind us. “We just hope that he will not be released on parole. We would like to thank the police and justice for their hard work to make sure that the accused was found guilty and sentenced,” said the family.
