Storm causes havoc in Mbombela

The storm started at around 18:45 on Monday evening, October 24, and resulted in power outages and fallen trees in parts of the city.

A massive lightning storm that hit Mbombela this evening, October 24, saw blackouts across parts of the city and resulted in several trees falling onto roads.

A power outage at Delta Substation, affecting Steiltes, Valencia, Nelsville and KaMagugu, was quickly restored.

DA councillor, Thea Rix, said that the City of Mbombela’s energy department was monitoring the situation.

She said, however, that outages in Sonheuwel and White River were ongoing as of 20:00 on Monday night.

Reports on social media and community WhatsApp groups indicated that a tree had fallen across the road on Enos Mabuza near the Westend SPAR.

There were also reports of a fallen tree near Communio Church and the Belladonna SPAR.

Rix said that the fallen trees were reported to Nelspruit Concerned Citizens.
