No arrest after shooting of two police officers

No arrests have been made after the shooting of two policemen in Acornhoek.
An off-duty sergeant and an on-duty warrant officer were shot by unknown persons in the early hours of Friday, January 13 in Zitha Trust. A provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate will deal with it.
Mdhluli said the sergeant, who died on the scene, will be buried on Sunday. He was described as a hard-working policeman who would always go above and beyond the call of duty to fight crime in the area.

“The police force has lost a dedicated member and he will be sorely missed by his colleagues, friends and family. To repay those who killed him, the police will leave no stone unturned until the killers are apprehended and brought to justice,” he said.
The sergeant worked in the stock theft unit and was fatally shot on his way to interrogate a suspect.
The wounded officer is reported to be recovering well, but it was not yet clear when he would return to work.
Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
