Storms wreaks havoc in Tubatse

Some roofing at Riba Primary School, Pae Pae Secondary School and houses in Praktiseer, Riba Cross and several local villages were also damaged

A severe thunderstorm wreaked havoc on various shacks and schools and killed livestock around Tubatse and surrounding areas on Sunday evening.

Some roofing at Riba Primary School, Pae Pae Secondary School and houses in Praktiseer, Riba Cross and several local villages were also damaged. Shacks used by street vendors were also dismantled by the storm.

School properties was damaged.

A local resident, said, “We love and enjoy rain, but when it destroys our stuff, it is unacceptable. I was scared I was going to die when the storm lifted the roof slightly off of my flat. It was like a tornado, a hectic one.”

The provincial disaster management centre released a statement. “We had several reports from people saying that their homes had been damaged and livestock killed. A few cars’ windscreens had also been shattered as people drove through the storm.”

Meanwhile Riba Primary School’s management has pleaded with the Limpopo Department of Education to speed up renovations and to fix the damaged roofing.
