Spate of accidents in and around Lydenburg

Multiple vehicles were damaged in seven separate accidents in the course of this last week.

The Lydenburg Traffic Department said emergency services had gone out in full force after several of these accidents had occurred in and around town.

Just before 07:00 last Thursday, a man apparently lost control of his grey Mercedes-Benz A250 and drove into a wooden fence in Voortrekker Street. The provincial ambulance service transported him to Lydenburg Hospital.

On Friday at 12:30, the driver of an Isuzu bakkie lost control of it on the R37 to Burgersfort. The bakkie overturned and landed on its roof. The driver and his two passengers sustained minor injuries. Another accident occurred in Lydenburg’s central business district on Saturday at 12:50. A VW Citi Golf and a Haval were in a bumper-to-bumper collision. No injuries were sustained.

On Saturday at 20:15, the Long Tom Pass was closed for several hours after a Mercedes-Benz Actros truck overturned. It was transporting timber and was heading towards Mbombela. Van Wettens Mbombela cleared the scene and assisted in towing the heavy vehicle. The driver only sustained minor injuries. In a head-on collision on Sunday at 13:20, two patients sustained minor injuries.

A Toyota Fortuner and a GWM P-Series double-cab collided on the Burgersfort road about 22km outside Lydenburg. Two people sustained minor injuries on the R540 to Dullstroom on Monday at about 07:30. A Toyota Fortuner and a Toyota Corolla Verso collided close to the Coromandel turn-off. Apparently, the Verso had slowed down for a pothole just before the accident.

About 14km outside Lydenburg towards Dullstroom, another accident took place on Tuesday at about 06:27. The driver of a GWM Steed sustained minor injuries. He apparently lost control of his vehicle and overturned, and the impact caused extensive damage to the passenger side.
