TRAC makes quick work of rockfalls on N4

Some teams worked from 10:00 to 20:00 to clear the recent rockfall off the N4.

Around-the-clock work from TRAC ensured the N4 was accessible again following rockfalls in two different areas.

In the early hours of Sunday, February 12, chaos struck the N4 along Schoemanskloof as well as Elands Valley when rock slides obstructed the road, resulting in closures while the scenes were being cleared.

Multiple teams and machinery were involved, and TRAC was lauded by the public for its continuous updates and a job well done.

TRAC’s spokesperson, Solange Soares, elaborated on all teams and resources involved from early on the Sunday until about 20:30 the same evening.

“Two TRAC route patrol units were on-site since early morning, and one of these continued to monitor the Schoemanskloof slopes throughout the night until further notice.

“Two TLBs and two tipper trucks worked from 10:00 until 20:30 and continued their work on Monday and Tuesday. Three route managers were with them, co-ordinating operations.

“WBHO Construction, one of TRAC’s contractors, had one excavator, one payloader, one TLB, six tipper trucks, one road sweeper and one water tanker involved in the process throughout Sunday until approximately 20:00. One of WBHO’s excavators and two of its tippers continued work on Monday morning.”

TRAC extended its thanks to employees, contractors, route patrol services, WBHO/Motheo JV, Joubert & Seuns and Wayne Johnson, a local landowner.
