Vehicle hijacked in Rustenburg recovered in Mpumalanga

Quick work by members of the Fidelity Specialised Intervention Unit and Vehicle Recovery Solutions in Mpumalanga tracked down a suspect, a hijacked vehicle and some items believed to have been stolen.

The combined efforts of Fidelity’s Specialised Intervention Unit and Vehicle Recovery Solutions led to the recovery of a vehicle in Mpumalanga that had initially been hijacked in Rustenburg.

According to Charnel Hattingh, group head of marketing and communications for the Fidelity Services Group, the team had responded to an alert by the control room to assist with a vehicle hijacked in Rustenburg on February 14.

The Specialised Intervention Unit’s regional manager, Shaun Terblanche, and Fidelity Secure Drive began searching between tower locations and guest houses in the area. After having spotted the vehicle at a guest house in Mpumalanga, the team approached reception and were taken to the guest’s room, where the suspect was apprehended.

The suspect, vehicle, large sums of local and foreign currency and cellphones in the suspect’s possession, were handed over to the local SAPS.

“This is outstanding work by Shaun Terblanche and the local team that assisted in this recovery. I commend our officers for their vigilance and quick action. Working together with SAPS and the community sends a strong message to criminals that crime will not be tolerated,” Hattingh said.
