Justicia Village man (35) arrested for murder

The suspect allegedly beat the victim to death with a wooden mortar.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on March 2 for allegedly killing a 53-year-old woman, Mathilda Siwele, in the Justicia Trust in Bushbuckridge, earlier that day.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the Calcutta police had received information about the body of a woman at a certain liquor outlet in the area.

“Emergency personnel were summoned and responded to the complaint. Upon arrival, they found the body of a woman lying on the ground. She was certified dead on the scene by paramedics. A murder case was opened, and after an investigation was conducted, it was discovered that the victim had been beaten to death with a wooden mortar by a certain man who fled the scene afterwards,” he said.

Mohlala said the police traced the suspect to his residence and arrested him. He was charged with murder and will appear in the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court on Monday March 6.
