Double-cab hits antelope on R36 to Ohrigstad, rolls off road, catches fire

The driver of a bakkie alighted from an accident with an antelope on the R36 with only minor injuries. The antelope was not so lucky, however.

The driver of a Toyota Raider double-cab bakkie hit an antelope on the R36 to Ohrigstad in the early hours of Wednesday March 9, about 800m before the Pilgrims Rest turnoff from Lydenburg’s direction.

According to the driver, he lost control of his bakkie after the accident. It rolled down an embankment and immediately caught fire. The driver was able to escape with only minor injuries.

Thaba Chweu Emergency Services and other emergency personnel from Lydenburg responded to the scene.
