The first Operation Clean-up was undertaken on March 24.
This joint operation is led by the Ehlanzeni District Municipality (EDM), and supported by the City of Mbombela and the Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism (KLCBT), as part of ensuring that all towns in the district remain clean at all times.

EDM’s spokesperson, Lucky Ngomane, said the initiative is part of a public-private partnership in which municipalities and private businesses work together.

“It is everyone’s responsibility to make sure that their area is clean, and as for the businesses, they need to buy in to attract more customers. Government alone will not make it, that is why we want to partner with businesses to clean the towns with them,” he said.

He also said the initiative will run on a monthly basis, involving all towns within the EDM.
The KLCBT’s COO, Linda Grimbeek, said it welcomes the initiative and joined hands to ensure Mbombela is kept clean.

“Despite short notice, private sector companies came on board as well, with the result that more than 250 people assisted with cleaning the Mbombela CBD and access routes on the day. Senior managers from the two municipalities also took part. The next operation will be on April 21 in Mbombela and everyone is invited to join in by assisting with the necessary equipment, food, water, petrol and so on,” she said.
Barberton will execute its first campaign today (March 30).
