Hospice White River’s pancake event raises thousands
Hospice White River hosted a pancake sale. Over 3 000 were sold to local businesses and community members.
Hospice White River’s annual pancake sale raised over R27 000 for the organisation, all thanks to the Lowveld’s businesses and community members.
The staggering sale was held at the entrance to Pick n Pay at the White River Square on Saturday April 1 and saw 31 people, including a team from Ytipan-Inni-Pens, assist in making over 3 400 pancakes.

Hospice’s Johan Maritz said the goal was to sell 3 000 pancakes, but thanks to the overwhelming support of both White River and Mbombela’s businesses and community members, they sold 3 421 pancakes instead – a whole hour earlier than anticipated.

The ingredients for the pancakes were all donated by local businesses and residents.

“The sale also included a few donations from the people who came out to support us, and we managed to raise a total of R27 783 – and that is just amazing,” said Maritz.
“We are extremely grateful for all the support and very happy with the amount raised. We want to thank everyone who came out on Saturday, those who made the pancakes and those who bought them.”
