SAWS predicts thunderstorms for the Lowveld

A weather alert has been released, warning against thundershowers, a little hail and strong winds.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for thunderstorms and showers in the Lowveld along the escarpment for today, April 10.

The warning said while rain is expected throughout the day, isolated severe thunderstorms with the possibility of some hail and strong winds are predicted from this afternoon until about 20:00.

The impacts of the expected thunderstorms include localised flooding of susceptible informal settlements and low-lying roads, and poor driving conditions.

The warning also stated that the hail and strong winds could lead to the damage of infrastructure, as well as trees being uprooted.
