Youngster from Barberton Primary shows promise on the track

Although Kayla Zwane was not able to reach the 100m finals this year, she has a bright future ahead of her.

For the second year in a row, Kayla Zwane (11) from Barberton Primary, represented Mpumalanga in the South African Athletics National Championship that was held in Pietermaritzburg from March 19 to 21.

Kayla made it through to the finals of the 100m in 2022, but did not manage to obtain a medal. This year, she unfortunately fell out in the semi-finals. She was also a part of the relay team this year that she had helped to win a silver medal.

According to her coach, Lydia Fourie, their training sessions were filled with cartwheels and smiles. “Juggling field and track items at every session, from 80m sprints to shot put, there was just no limit to Kayla’s talents. Watching Super Sport Schools, and seeing her run was such a privilege. She not only represented Mpumulanga in amazing fashion, but also our school,” Fourie said.

The future of athletics at Barberton Primary is bright having Kayla in it. The whole school is proud of her and cannot wait to see what the future holds.
