No injuries, fatalities reported in accident on R40 in Riverside in Mbombela

An accident involving a light motor vehicle and a minibus taxi occurred on the R40. It is suspected that one of the drivers did not stop at a traffic light that was operating as a four-way stop at the time.

There were no fatalities or injuries announced in an accident that occurred on the R40 in Riverside in Mbombela when a minibus taxi and a light motor vehicle collided on May 27.

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said it was unclear what might have caused the accident. However, it is suspected that one of the drivers did not stop at a traffic light that was operating as a four-way stop due to load-shedding at the time.

“It is alleged that it was not the turn of one of the two drivers to go. However, he drove and collided with the other driver whose turn it was. We are still investigating the matter; once we conclude the investigation, more details will be made available,” Mmusi said.

He said the emergency personnel who had responded to the accident scene cleared it within an hour. He added that no fatalities or injuries had been reported among the passengers or the drivers.

Mmusi said they urge motorists to drive cautiously on the roads to avoid causing accidents and to rest whenever they are tired.
