Mbombela residence burns to the ground

A Mbombela couple was left without a home when it was destroyed in a fire.

An Aragoniet Street house was raized to the ground on Friday night, June 23, leaving a Mbombela couple without a home.

It is suspected the fire had started with a gas heater at about 21:00.

In a bid to avoid the danger and the flames, the homeowners were said to have fled the house and called their contracted security company, Divergent Ops, and asked them to call the Mbombela Fire and Rescue Department.

Emer-G-Med’s Martin Jeffrey said he had received reports of the fire at 21:50.

He said all the relevant role players were on the scene, including Divergent Ops, ACS Spartan, the Mbombela Fire and Rescue Department, Nelspruit Concerned Citizens and members of the Nelspruit Community Policing Forum.

He said the two homeowners have sustained minor injuries and have declined further treatment.

Jeffrey said the husband had sustained an abrasion on his arm, while his wife had a burn wound on her finger.

He said the team stayed at the scene in case other injuries occurred during the extinguishing of the flames.

The fire was put out at about 23:30.
