Four dead in Schoemanskloof crash involving a donkey

An SUV with eight occupants hit a donkey on the N4 in Schoemanskloof, leaving four dead and four injured.

Four people, including a 13-year-old, died and four others were injured as the vehicle in which they were travelling hit a donkey and overturned on the N4 near Bambi in Schoemanskloof in the early hours of June 27.

The Mpumalanga Ddepartment for Community Safety, Security and Liaison’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said a Toyota Fortuner with eight occupants had been travelling on the Schoemanskloof road, near Bambi, from Mbombela, when the vehicle hit the donkey.

Mmusi said three of the occupants, including the 13-year-old, had died upon impact, while the fourth was later pronounced dead in hospital. The driver was seriously injured, while the remaining three passengers received slight injuries. All are receiving treatment in a hospital in the Belfast area, according to Mmusi.

He said the cause of the accident is being investigated. He said the donkey died at the scene.
