Bogus initiation school shut down in Sekhukhune

There were no injuries or fatalities reported from the school in question, the decision was taken for the initiates to be moved to a registered school.

Limpopo SAPS in conjunction with the Co-operative Governance Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta), closed a bogus initiation school outside Kutupu Village (Ga Sekhukhune) on Friday.

‘‘According to information available at this stage, it is alleged that there was an initiation school that was
in practice at Kutupu in contravention of the Initiation Act. It is reported that the school was discovered on June 25 and through proper inspections it was found that the school has not registered with Coghsta as per the prescribed act,’’ said the Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

He said although there were no injuries or fatalities reported from the school in question, the decision was
taken for the initiates to be moved to a registered school.

Limpopo SAPS’s provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, applauded the teams for taking
appropriate action.

The suspects responsible for the illegal practices of the initiation school have been served with a notice to appear in the Nebo Magistrate’s Court soon, to face charges for the contravention of the Initiation Act.
Police investigations are continuing.
