Young ones perfect their cricket skills during a tourney at Burgersfort

They were taught the basic skills required, with the emphasis on enjoyment and participation.

Five schools competed in a mini cricket tourney at Laerskool Burgersfort on Saturday.

The visiting schools included Laerskool Numbi, Sabie, Ohrigstad and Steelpoort. Pupils from the foundation phases participated.

They were taught the basic skills required, with the emphasis on enjoyment and participation.

Mini cricket is the first taste of cricket to which aspirant young boys and girls are introduced.

This soft ball level gives the children the enjoyment that comes with participating in a team sport, and also gets them acquainted with the basics of the game, including batting, bowling and fielding.

‘‘We saw our future stars in this sport. The kids showcased their cricket skills and most were eager to continue playing the sport and to represent the country internationally,’’ said a teacher, Anna Botha.
