External bursary opportunities for the year 2026

The Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA) offers bursary opportunities to deserving students who intend to enrol or are currently enrolled in the following fields of study.
Limited to the following fields of study as per the external bursary policy:
BSc/B Degree in Environmental Science
BSc Hydrology/Water Resource Management
BSc Chemistry, Biochemistry and Microbiology
BSc Geohydrology, Geomorphology and Botany
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
A certified copy of a valid South African ID.
A certified copy of the Matric certificate reflecting a minimum average of 65%, accompanied by proof of admission or provisional acceptance from a recognised institution of higher learning, or confirmation of enrolment in one of the approved fields of study.
Currently registered students in the relevant fields must attach a certified satisfactory academic record from their most recent year/level of study, with an average of at least 60%.
Only South African citizens residing within the Mpumalanga Province (within the IUCMA’s Water Management Area) are eligible. Proof of residence issued by the Local Municipality or signed by a Headman/Chief must be attached.
Proof of household income for the parent(s) or guardian(s), accompanied by an affidavit from the South African Police Service (SAPS), must be provided.
Students who already receive funding or bursaries from other sponsors do not qualify. Successful applicants will be required to sign a bursary contract with the IUCMA in accordance with the External Bursary Policy.
VALUE OF THE BURSARY
The bursary covers ONLY the following: Registration, Tuition fees and Examination fees, Accommodation, Meals, Prescribed material, and stipend, in line with the IUCMA external bursary policy.

Bursary application forms may be collected from the IUCMA offices in Nelspruit, Piet Retief/Usuthu, and Bushbuckridge. Forms are also accessible on the IUCMA website at www.iucma.co.za. Completed applications must be submitted via email to Bursaries@iucma.co.za. Please note: Hand-delivered or posted applications will not be accepted.
