FTLM officially opens the Ga-Maepa road in Ohrigstad

This newly completed road provides direct access to the village, enhancing safety, convenience, and connectivity for the local community.

After its completion in September 2025, the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) officially opened the 4.5km Ga-Maepa Access Road on February 11, marking a major milestone in improving access, mobility, and quality of life for residents. Ga-Maepa is a mountainous village outside Ohrigstad in the FTLM’s Ward 1.

The 4.5km road was completed in September 2025.

Prior to the construction of the road, residents were dropped off by public transport along the R555 and were forced to walk more than three kilometres to reach the village, creating significant challenges, particularly for the elderly, school learners, and workers commuting.

The contractor, Tseamiso Trading, was formally introduced to the community back in September 2024, and the project was completed in September 2025.

The road now provides direct access to the village, improving safety, convenience, and connectivity for the locals.

The official opening ceremony was attended by the political leadership of the FTLM, and members of the community who gathered to witness the important infrastructure milestone.

“Today, we are proud to officially open this road, which restores dignity and improves access for our people. We commend the community of Ward 1 for their cooperation throughout the project and encourage all communities to emulate this spirit and safeguard public infrastructure, as these developments are meant to benefit both present and future generations,” said Mayor Eddie Maila
