NELSPRUIT – A four-year-old boy assisted in locating his family after he was allegedly abandoned at a local restaurant. According to Mr Jacques Meiring of Bossies Community Justice, he was alerted by staff at around 22:20 that the toddler was left at the establishment after his family left. He waited in vain for more than an hour for someone to realise he was missing and to collect him.
Meiring accompanied the boy to the local police station. “He is very bright and was able to tell us who his parents are, what car his mother drives as well as the address where they live,” he said. With this information, the authorities located his family.
Two women, apparently aunts of the boy, collected him at around 23:30 from the police station. They were given a warning and no arrests were made.
It is important, concludes Meiring, that children memorise phone numbers and addresses of their parents and other family members.
