Minibus collides with refuse truck in Barberton

No fatalities were reported, although there were some serious injuries.

A number of injured people were rushed to hospital following a collision between a minibus taxi and a municipal refuse collection truck in Barberton today, Friday, November 29.

Witnesses at the scene said the accident had happened along the R38 near the Stimela Shopping Complex at about 12:30.
“As things stand, l do not not know as to which vehicle came from which direction. I only heard a loud bang, and when l looked back, a minibus taxi was lying on its side,” said a reliable source who opted to remain anonymous.

She said the truck a few metres away. “People in the minibus were screaming for help, and some managed to jump out of its windows,” said the source.
Another source said some ambulances rushed to the scene. “A number of people were seriously injured, and some slightly. No one died, however. The injured were immediately rushed to hospital,” said the second source, who also asked for anonymity.

The spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, said he was not yet aware about the accident when this publication called him.

He said he would contact the traffic officials in Barberton before he gives his official commen
