15-year-old Mbombela schoolboy drowns in swimming pool
The boy was found by neighbours who tried to rush him to hospital
A Stonehenge boy was certified dead at Mediclinic Nelspruit after a neighbour found him experiencing difficulties in a swimming pool yesterday, Saturday, November 30.
Martin Jeffrey, the Emer-G-Med operations manager, said a medical emergency team was dispatched to Stonehenge after receiving the information.
“Neighbours found the 15-year-old boy experiencing difficulties in the pool and took him out of the water. We met them along the way, trying to rush him to hospital, and took over the situation,” said Jeffrey.

He said the paramedics applied cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other emergency procedures before rushing the boy to the hospital where he died.
A provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, confirmed that the police opened an inquest concerning the matter.
“We can confirm that an inquest has been registered for investigation,” said Mdhluli.
As police we are concerned about the high number of drownings during this period. We request parents to exercise caution to prevent similar situations.
He added that the preliminary investigations revealed that the boy had a history of living with epilepsy.

He said the police have sent their condolences to the boy’s family.
This publication reached out to the family and the boy’s mother asked to be given privacy to mourn her only child and for his name not to be published now.
It has so far been established that he was a talented sportsman at a Mbombela high school.
