UPDATE | Fugitive wanted in connection with the murder of Ermelo police commander arrested in Komatipoort
Prince Gift Mdluli was found and arrested after police received information on his whereabouts from some community members.
The sixth suspect linked to the murder of the commander of the Ermelo Vehicle Identification Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Piet Pretorius, was arrested today, March 8.
According to a Hawks’ spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Magonseni Nkosi, Prince Gift Mdluli had been on the run since January 16, the day Pretorius was killed.
Nkosi said, “Police received a tip-off from some community members at about 08:00 and immediately attended to the call. He was arrested in a clothing shop in Komatipoort. When he was arrested, Mdluli was wearing dirty, worn-out clothes.”

Former policeman Mthobisi Nkosi (40), Aubrey Xaba (35), Skhumbuzo Skhakhane (40), Nyiko Mujovo (30) and Valencia Skhosana were arrested on January 17, less than 12 hours after Pretorius’s murder.
“Four of the five accused abandoned their bail application in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on February 18 and are scheduled to reappear on April 10.
“The fifth suspect, Skhosana, proceeded with her bail application, but was remanded in custody after appearing on February 18 and 27. She will proceed with her bail application on March 12,” Nkosi said.
