White River CPF patroller killed in alleged ambush

A number of empty cartridges were found at the scene where a CPF patroller was shot.

Police have confirmed that the fatal shooting of a White River Community Policing Forum (CPF) patroller in Msholozi on March 27 is believed to have been a premeditated ambush.

The patroller has been identified as 38-year-old Sabelo Jerry Bila.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Jabu Ndubane, Billa allegedly responded to a knock from someone who pretended that they needed assistance.

“When the victim went out, he was shot at. More than 14 empty cartridges were found on scene,” said Ndubane.

A murder case has been opened and no arrests have been made yet. Police have appealed to the public for information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator(s). Community members can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or send information via the My SAPS app.
