African magic comes alive on the stage
A musical show that dazzled the audience.
A privileged audience was transported to Africa with a dance show that could only be compared to international standards. This was a school production called Turaco Safari held by Nelspruit Primary and the actors and dancers were mere pupils.
The story welcomes a family of tourists to the Lowveld, yet the professionalism when it came to costumes, stage props, choreography and music, was of Broadway standard. The production itself should be shown to international visitors.
The audience could only feel pride and wonder as the children ignited the magic of the area.
The story centres around the Dlamini family who embarks on a safari. The show is called Turaco Safari, because it reflects the beautiful colours of the lourie.
The energetic dancing thoroughly entertained the audience. The performance was a collaboration between Nelspruit Primary, Dance Mouse Nelspruit, Respiro Studios and local artist Monolo.
In-between crocodiles shuffling and lions, was the heart-stopping beat and rhythm of the Nelspruit Primary djembe drummers.
The script for Turaco Safari was specially adapted for Nelspruit Primary by Marilda Wiegand of Respiro Studios. It was produced and directed by Liz van der Merwe. Dance Mouse Nelspruit was responsible for the choreography of all the songs, assisted by NPS production staff.
