Biggest SA music names here in two weeks
The Route 40 music festival is set to rock the Lowveld over the course of three days boasting the biggest local bands.
WHITE RIVER – The Route 40 Music Festival will be happening in two weeks time in White River. It is a fund-raiser, and all income goes towards the Casterbridge Music Department Academy programme, for the uplift of the local youth, through music. “The line-up is phenomenal, and we are still receiving requests from other musicians and even other bands in the USA who wish to be part of the event,” said the organiser Andrea Matthews.
The line-up reads as follows:
The Parlotones, Prime Circle, Vusi Mahlasela, Stefano Giorgini, Watershed, Elvis Blue, Zebra & Giraffe, Jason Hartman, The December Streets, Auriol Hays, Sheraaz Band, Paige Mac, The Sky, ISO, Shortstraw, Woodstock Mafia and Lindiwe Suttle.
Aside from all the musical happenings over the three days from December 6-8, also scheduled are interactive workshops with the stars themselves. Members of the public will be able to attend talks and workshops in the Casterbridge Cinema, at no additional charge, which will give them a great chance to meet and interact with top musicians who will be sharing their tips and stories on life in the music industry.
The workshops will cover a multitude of topics, ranging from songwriting, creating low budget music videos, surviving and making it in the music industry, and even what life is like “beyond Idols” which will be presented by Idols darling Elvis Blue. Musicians and music teachers from the United States will also be sharing their interesting stories with the public. This will tie in nicely with the performances by youngsters who have participated in the songwriting contest which has been a collaborative event between the CMDA and Carnegie Hall Musical Exchange Programme in New York and the Rock School Scholarship Fund in California.
This is a one of a kind festival, in that it incorporates not only phenomenal bands, but also gives the public the opportunity to see young, up and coming local musicians performing alongside these acts, as well as interact with their favourite stars.
Added to this will be food stalls, a Christmas market, a 6km and 12km trail run from Casterbridge. Cost for the three days at the Route 40 Music Festival will cost R350pp, and the daily ticket is R150pp. Tickets are available from www.2enable.org, www.webtickets.co.za, or call 013-751-3171/35.
