Incited residents blockade roads

According to sources approximately 600 people are taking part in the protest and there were reports of rubber bullets being fired.

The road to Emjindini Trust has been blockaded again this morning (Thursday, June 12) as irate residents once again vented their anger against the Umjindi Municipality through protest action.

According to sources approximately 600 people are taking part in the protest and there were reports of rubber bullets being fired.

As reports came in of protestors blocking roads with trees trunks and rocks, Barberton police spokesman, Const Tutu Nkosi, said so far no arrests had been made and no injuries reported.

On June 2, residents blockaded roads as part of their protest against, among others, lack of water supply for the past eight months.

Barberton Times has reported extensively on the growing tension in the area over the past few weeks.

Attempts to get comment from Umjindi Municipality has proven unsuccessful.
