Bungalows come in second at Gaydon Shield Tournament

The town’s Bungalows Bowling Club achieved a second place in the well-known Gaydon Shield Tournament that was hosted at the Lowveld Country Club (LVCC) on July 12 and 13.

Twenty eight teams participated in the two-day event that had a mixed-fours format and consisted of six mini games. Each consisted of 10 ends and the aim was to win each end for a point and each game for two. A total of 12 points could be gained per mini game.

The games started off on Saturday morning with a pre-draw for the two days. After the first two mini games Bungalows were in 16th place with 10 points and a shot aggregate of -3.

The team, consisting of Larry Ireland, Darryl Cross, Marlet Ireland and Christie Cross, won the next two mini games, which put them in third place with 28 points and a shot aggregate of 23 at the end of day one.

On Sunday morning Bungalows faced an LVCC team led by Johan Botha. The home team had a fair start and Bungalows had to fight hard to catch up. They stayed positive and with teamwork, willpower and endurance finally won the game.

Results:

First: Malcolm Tyerman, Shirley Tyerman, Maureen Steinbrucker and Hybert Fahy with 45 points and a shot aggregate of 12

Second: Larry Ireland, Darryl Cross, Marlet Ireland and Christie Cross with 42 points and a shot aggregate of 27

Third: Denis Paiva, Miranda Paiva, Gwyn Korf and Hardus Korf with 41 points and a shot aggregate of 10.

Lettie Ambrosius and Pat Jones won prizes in a raffle. A spider was played and R1 000 raised, with Ellenor Storkey and Jo Koster announced as the winners.
