A suspect was granted R1 000 bail after being accused of raping an 18-year-old boy.

TONGA – A suspect was granted R1 000 bail after being accused of raping an 18-year-old boy.

The 32-year-old man of Block A appeared in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on September 19 for his formal bail application. The man, a security guard, allegedly raped the victim on September 4.

According to Lt Mzwandile Nyambi, spokesman for the Tonga SAPS, the victim was at a local supermarket when the suspect asked the boy to accompany him to his room.

The suspect then offered the boy food and thereafter pinned him down, undressed the victim and forced himself on him. After raping him the suspect forced the victim to have oral sex with him. “The boy defended himself by biting the suspect and then managed to escape. The boy then reported the matter to the police and the suspect who lives at a local church was arrested by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.”

Nyambi added that the victim has since been referred to a doctor for medical attention and counselling. The trial has been postponed to October 15.
