Three families homeless after fire

Three families are without homes after three shacks were burnt down in Emjindini Township in Barberton on Thursday early morning.

EMJINDINI – Three families are without homes after three shacks were burnt down in Emjindini Township in Barberton on Thursday early morning.

According to the councilor of the area, Cllr Anthea Mthunywa, the fire might have been started by a candle that was left burning during the night.

She ruled out possibilities of electricity fault as the area is not electrified.

“Currently, the Umjindi Municipality is busy assisting the families with organizing food parcels and temporal structures. There were almost 10-school attending children that have been affected by the fire. All their uniforms and other school materials were destroyed in the fire,” said Mthunywa.

Two of the shacks were occupied by five people each while the other was occupied by eight.

Fortunately, no has been reportedly injured.

Barberton Times will update the story as soon as new information emerges.
