Vacancy: Editor – Lowvelder
Lowveld Media invites suitable candidates to apply for the Lowvelder editor position.

Lowvelder is a multi-award-winning newspaper in Mpumalanga and the flagship of Lowveld Media. Its credentials include winning the Cronwright Sanlam Award and ATKV Media-Veertjie for the best community newspaper in South Africa 2013 and the Caxton Excellence Award for best sold newspaper on numerous occasions.
We are seeking to appoint a full-time editor for Lowvelder.
The editor is responsible for the print and digital platforms associated with this flagship publication. The job entails policy making on editorial matters, handling of legal matters, maintaining good relationships with the community and ultimately, making decisions on editorial content.
This is a challenging position for a highly organised individual who has a passion for excellence. The right candidate must have excellent communication skills, the ability to work across multi-platforms and be a self-motivated team player.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education and/or qualifications
- Journalism Degree (NQF level 7)
- 8+years as senior editor within a newspaper environment
- Computer literate
- Digital publishing
- Sound knowledge of advertising

JOB DESCRIPTION
- Ensure that overall quality and content of Lowvelder are of a high standard and in-line with the group’s overall vision.
- Set the journalistic standards, guidelines and policies of the editorial department
- Create and maintain an environment where all employees develop and excel, and feel that they are valuable team players.
- Lead the editorial team to embrace the overall values and strategies of Lowveld Media, and work as one team with all the other departments
- Staff management including recruitment, orientation, training, coaching, counseling, and disciplinary matters
- Promote print and online products.
