Car goes up in flames after accident

Shortly after the injured driver was removed from the Volkswagen, the engine burst into flames. Employees from the nearby smelter saw the flames and rushed to put it out

STEELPOORT – On Saturday morning a Volkswagen vehicle collided with a truck at the second new stop street on the R555 to Stofberg.

Eye-witnesses said the truck was travelling towards Steelpoort when the vehicle collided with its front side. Shortly after the injured driver was removed from the Volkswagen, the engine burst into flames. Employees from the nearby smelter saw the flames and rushed to put it out.

The truck driver was not injured and according to Const Victoria Maluleka, spokesman for Burgersfort police, investigations are still underway to determine who was responsible for the accident. The court case has also been postponed until the driver of the Volkswagen is discharged from the hospital.
