The eighth annual NTT Toyota Barberton Golf Day which was held at the Barberton Golf Club on Friday, was a huge success.
This year it was decided that the proceeds would be donated to a local pre-school, SAVF Kleutervriend.
Despite the incredibly hot day, that reached 40 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, the 64 players were in high spirits when they teed off at about 11:40 by way of shotgun. The format of the game was the ever-popular four-ball American Scramble.
Werners Swanepoel, Rikus Nel and Mark Coomer won with a combined score of 52,125 points.
Hard on their heels in the second place were Michael Nkosi, Christiaan Labuschagne, Marius de Beer and Johan Breytenbach with a combined score of 53,125. The third place was taken by Piet Roux, Ruan Greyvensteyn, Albert Hattingh and Gerhard van Aswegen who finished the game with 56,125 points.
Principal of SAVF Kleutervriend, Liana Nieuwenhuis, also attended the prize-giving ceremony. She conveyed special thanks to dealer principal of NTT Toyota, Duwies Duvenage, as well as NTT’s financial manager, Yvette van Wyk.
“I would also like to make use of this opportunity to thank the community and especially the schools’ parents for their involvement and their willingness to always lend assistance when needed,” she said. She also thanked businesses and individuals who donated prizes and were involved with making the event a positive one. Duvenage spoke briefly about SAVF Kleutervriend. He said that the day was superbly arranged and he thanked the Barberton Golf Club and manager, Margaret Blount, for this.
“The staff of the golf club is priceless when it comes to organisation skills and their food and service are of high standard. Thank you to our suppliers and customers for your continued support,” Duvenage said.
The evening ended on a high note with much socialising and a braai at the club house.
